A soul filled with stories

"To know nothing about yourself is to be constantly in danger of nothingness, those voids of non-being over which a man walks the tightrope of his life."
— Athol Fugard (Tsotsi: A Novel)

I have 3 days left of High School, and then class is over and we write final exams. Reflecting over my terrible school life, I realise that the bullying had a purpose, in the long run. IT GETS BETTER

I couldn’t be fucking happier. I’m sitting in class now, typing on my phone, and I look around at these people. I’m not going to miss them. They are so cruel and mean, the entire class is bullying the boy who is a little strange. He doesn’t deserve it though. No one does. They all kill themselves laughing as he stands here saying, NO leave me alone, asking him what he is doing next year.

Just because we are different people think its ok to hurt us, make fun of us. But I think those of us that are different are the strongest. This is because everyday we are put down my our peers, society, even our friends. We are frowned at, told to tone it down, and have to face vindictive comments under muttered breath. But everyday we keep being who we are. We don’t let the comments and looks make us change. We say fuck you and keep wearing our tie dyed clothing. By them bullying us, they are making us more and more solid and confident in who we are. It seems the taunting had a deeper purpose in my life.

Keep on being different and unique. The world needs people like us, there is a place for us, we are a breath of fresh air :)

maybethingswillchange: In third world countries, children are dyeing because they don't have food to eat. In America, teens are killing...

There is DEFINITELY no animal out there that drinks another animals milk at all, let alone in adulthood.  So why do we drink cows milk then?
From what I’ve read a long time ago when we first started herding cattle in Europe we needed the extra protein/calcium from cows milk to survive.  Therefore there was an evolutionary advantage to producing lactase, the enzyme that allows you to digest the lactose in milk.  If you could digest the lactose you could drink the milk as a source of protein and calcium and thus ensuring your survival and the survival of your offspring.  But in other parts of the world, finding a plant based supply of calcium was not a problem and they did not evolve to produce lactase in adulthood.  If you don’t believe me please check out some stats about lactose intolerance.  The majority of races from Northern Europe do not have a problem digesting lactose,  but races from Africa, Asia, and South America (aka the rest of the planet) tend to develop lactose intolerance in adulthood.  This is because it is not natural for humans to drink any type of milk in adulthood, including cow’s milk.

So why are we still drinking milk?  My answer to that would be cultural conditioning and how delicious cheese/ice cream/various dairy products are.  I think it’s natural for us to crave these creamy products because our body knows they are high in calories/fat and our bodies are always trying to store up calories just incase we run out of food.  Which for most of us, those odds are pretty slim and all we are doing is packing on the pounds.
Mind you I’m not denying we need calcium, I’m just saying there are much better sources of calcium than animal milk.  My personal favorite is pictured above, almond milk.  It has 50% more calcium than cow’s milk in every glass.  I just checked the nutrition label in my fridge and just one 8 oz glass of almond milk gives me 45% of my days calcium.  Not only is it nutritional but it’s creamy and comes in awesome flavors like Dark Chocolate and Vanilla.
According to fitday.com almond milk is the healthier alternative over cow’s milk.

“Compared to cow’s milk, almond milk is the much healthier choice. Almond milk contains a wide variety of the vitamins and minerals that your body needs to function. Almond milk also contains high levels of antioxidants, so it can help prevent many types of cancer and slow the signs of aging. Almond milk is also great for those who can’t drink cow’s milk due to lactose intolerance, or a casein or gluten allergy; however, those with tree nut allergies should avoid almond milk because it could elicit a dangerous allergic reaction.
Whole cow’s milk contains a lot more calories and fat than almond milk, making almond milk the better choice for those on a diet. Cow’s milk also contains saturated fat and cholesterol; almond milk is free of both saturated fat and cholesterol, making it a healthier choice, especially for those with heart problems.
While cow’s milk contains high levels of calcium, and is fortified with vitamins A and D to help you meet your daily requirements of these vitamins, almond milk contains high levels of a wide range of necessary vitamins and therefore has a higher nutritional value than cow’s milk. The only thing that cow’s milk has more of than almond milk is protein; cow’s milk has eight grams of protein per serving while almond milk has only one gram per serving.”
So I encourage everyone to just try almond milk/soy milk/rice milk/any type of plant based milk!  Because every time you drink a glass of milk, somewhere out there a baby calf isn’t.  If you are considering a vegan diet it is an absolute must.
